Motorcycle Safety Sessions

Tune up your motorbike safety skills!

Join us for exclusive motorcycle safety training with world-renowned expert, Dave Moss, who has been teaching NZ motorcycle riders since 2011 to understand the basics of motorcycle suspension and how to set up their own motorcycle chassis and suspension to meet their individual physical requirements while maximising their safety on the road. His mission is “to save a life every day in the motorcycle community via education and training”.

Dave has a substantial and loyal following in the NZ motorcycle community and we'll pleased to be offering four sessions with him in February 2025.

Safe Suspension Tuning Ride

Capital Motorcycles, 72 Victoria Street, Alicetown
Saturday 15 February, 1pm-4pm

Join Dave as he leads a group ride to demonstrate the principles of motorcycle suspension and get hands-on to optimise your motorcycle suspension for safer and smoother rides.

This session is $150 and spaces are limited. Includes food and drinks. Full motorcycle licence required.

This session includes:

  • Fork and shock preload set for all bikes at the meet point, then ride for 30kms
  • Stop, set rebound damping correctly with hot oil for all bikes, then ride for 30kms
  • Stop, set compression damping at 50% of the total range, then ride for 30kms
  • Stop, ask each rider for changes on compression (softer/harder), ride for 30kms
  • Stop – debrief for 30 minutes

You also need the following adjustments on your motorcycle:

  • fork preload
  • fork rebound
  • shock preload
  • shock rebound
  • fork and shock compression adjustments are preferred but not required

  • Setting sag using preload and a tape measure
  • How to set hydraulics correctly for rebound and compression using what tools?
  • Marking fork bottom
  • Assessing shock travel
  • Discussing tyre sizes and carcass

Hands-on Safety Tuning
