Council have agreed to introduce paid parking in Petone as part of the 10 Year Plan, taking effect from 1 October 2024.
Parking along Jackson Street (between Hutt Road to Cuba Street) will be $3 per hour with a two-hour time limit, effective seven days a week from 9am-5pm.
Peel Carpark (behind the Petone Neighbourhood Hub) will have six free carparks with a two-hour time limit for use by people visiting the hub. The remaining parks in the Peel Carpark will be $3 per hour with a four-hour time limit. This will be implemented later in October.
Public holidays are unrestricted at all locations.
We’re increasing the maximum parking time in some areas and reducing it in others so visitors can make the most of a leisurely café stop or shopping.
All paid parking across the city is $3 per hour from 1 October. The new fees are adjusted for inflation and to ensure that revenue received keeps up with the rising cost of services and to ensure that service users are paying their share.
FAQs
Mobility parks on Jackson Street remain in place and become all hours mobility parks. These will be paid parking to be consistent with the Lower Hutt CBD.
Mobility pass holders may pay for one hour of parking and stay for up to two hours. This only applies when a full hour of parking is paid for. If you can't find a mobility carpark, you can park in a legal parking space and still have the same concession. Just make sure your valid mobility permit can be seen easily either on your dashboard or hanging from your rearview mirror.
Paid parking in Petone will be Zone HC2 along Jackson Street, the same as the CBD. This means that if you pay for parking anywhere in HC2, you can move your vehicle to another part of the zone (for example from one end of Jackson Street to the other) and use the remainder of your time allowance there.
Paid parking in the Peel Carpark will be Zone HC5.
You will be able to pay for parking with cash or cards at the parking meters, or by using the Pay My Park App.
Locations were chosen based on a number of criteria. They will be installed along Jackson Street and in the Peel Carpark and should be easy for people to find. View a map with the meter locations.
Paid parking at $3 per hour with a two-hour time limit will be in place along Jackson Street, from Hutt Road to Cuba Street.
