In October 2024, Hutt City Council introduced paid parking in Petone as part of the 10 Year Plan.
Parking along Jackson Street (between Hutt Road to Cuba Street) is $3 per hour with a two-hour time limit, effective seven days a week from 9am-5pm.
Peel Carpark (behind the Petone Neighbourhood Hub) has six free carparks with a two-hour time limit for use by people visiting the hub. The remaining parks in the Peel Carpark are $3 per hour with a four-hour time limit.
Public holiday parking is unrestricted at all locations.
We’ve increased the maximum parking time in some areas and reduced it in others so visitors can make the most of a leisurely café stop or shopping.
FAQs
Mobility parks on Jackson Street remain in place and have become all hours mobility parks. These are paid parking spaces to be consistent with the Lower Hutt CBD.
Mobility pass holders may pay for one hour of parking and stay for up to two hours. This only applies when a full hour of parking is paid for. If you can't find a mobility carpark, you can park in a legal parking space and still have the same concession. Just make sure your valid mobility permit can be seen easily either on your dashboard or hanging from your rearview mirror.
Paid parking in Petone is now Zone HC2 along Jackson Street, the same as the CBD. This means that if you pay for parking anywhere in HC2, you can move your vehicle to another part of the zone (for example from one end of Jackson Street to the other) and use the remainder of your time allowance there.
Paid parking in the Peel Carpark is Zone HC5.
You can pay for parking with cash or cards at the parking meters, or by using the Pay My Park App.
Locations were chosen based on a number of criteria. They are installed along Jackson Street and in the Peel Carpark. View a map with the meter locations.
Paid parking at $3 per hour with a two-hour time limit is along Jackson Street, from Hutt Road to Cuba Street.
Paid parking at $3 per hour with a four-hour time limit is in the Peel Carpark, as well as six free parks with a time limit of two-hours for use by visitors to the Petone Neighbourhood Hub.
