Update on Ava Bridge Pedestrian Walkway

Today KiwiRail confirmed it is deferring work to replace ageing sleepers, rail and other structural maintenance on the Ava Rail Bridge in Lower Hutt until the end of 2025.

“It’s great that we are now all working together to find a solution,” says Mayor Campbell Barry.

“This approach ensures we have time to consider how pedestrian access could be designed into KiwiRail’s planned maintenance.

“We thank everyone who took the time to share their concerns about the closure with us.”
