Safety in our facilities

Hutt City Council endeavours to create an inclusive and safe environment where everyone is welcome.

To keep everyone safe at our sites we ask that visitors behave in a safe and responsible manner and treat all staff, visitors and amenities with care and respect.

We are all responsible for keeping tamariki (children) safe in our families and communities. Children under 14 are legally required to be supervised at all times, including when visiting our public sites. It is the responsibility of the caregivers, or adults responsible to ensure there is reasonable supervision and arrangements in place.

If you have a certified assistance dog (disability assist dogs), you have the right to bring them onto our public sites. An assistance dog is a generic term for a guide, hearing or assistance dog that is specifically trained to support the effects of an individuals disability. An assistance dog has to be certified as a 'disability assist dog' by an approved organisation like the Blind Foundation, Assistance Dogs NZ or Hearing Dogs for Deaf People NZ.

Domestic animals, smoking, vaping, weapons, gang patches and insignia are prohibited at public premises.

Staff have the right to ask you to leave if you behave inappropriately or are being disruptive. This may include yelling, swearing, intimidating behaviour, under the influence/intoxication, acting suspiciously or making others feel uncomfortable. If you are asked to leave, a staff member will advise when you can return.

Hutt City Council also has the right to issue a trespass notice for ongoing or significant behaviour breaches, as per requirements under the Trespass Act.
