Improving Drainage to Keep Fields Playable
Hutt City Council is installing subsoil drainage systems at key sports fields to help prevent waterlogging and improve usability during the wet winter season. These upgrades will allow fields to dry faster and stay playable for longer periods, reducing disruptions to sports and recreation.
About the Project
The work involves placing perforated pipes in trenches backfilled with gravel, sand, and topsoil. These pipes help remove excess water from the field, directing it into the drainage system and then into a nearby stormwater drain. This means the fields will dry out faster and stay in better condition year-round.
As well as subsoil drainage, some extra work is going on to get Naenae Park in top shape, including surface levelling.
What this means for you
Half of Naenae Park is closed while work is underway, with an estimated completion date of July 2025. Parts of the park are open to the public, but for your safety, please steer clear of the construction zones and moving machinery. Work is almost complete at Hutt Park, and the grounds will be reopened at the end of March.
