Find out about Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi, the project previously referred to as RiverLink
Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi – The Soothing Waters of Te Awa Kairangi
Mana Whenua gifted the name Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi – The Soothing Waters of Te Awa Kairangi to the programme previously referred to as RiverLink.
This transformational project will deliver crucial flood protection and river restoration work, improvements to public transport, walking & cycling routes, local roads and the SH2 Melling Interchange, as well as urban revitalisation of the Lower Hutt city centre.
Hutt City Council is delivering the City Link Bridge, streetscapes, the Riverbank car park and local road improvements that form part of Te Awa Kairangi programme and will also work with Greater Wellington to progress the Riverbank Park. Greater Wellington is also delivering most of the stop banks works.
The more complex integrated aspects of the programme, such as the Queens St/High St intersection and the Melling Transport Improvements project which require the relocation of the train station, will be delivered by the Alliance.
The Alliance is a partnership between iwi Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika and Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Greater Wellington Regional Council, Hutt City Council, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, AECOM and Fletcher.
