Emergency water tanks

Be prepared!

In an emergency you’ll need enough water to last for seven days until backup water plans can be activated. You may need to store more if you have unwell people, small children, or pets in your family. Hutt City Council recommends having 20 litres per person per day to cover drinking, cooking, washing, and hygiene. The minimum amount of stored emergency water is 3 litres per person per day for seven days.

Through our relationship with WREMO, Hutt City Council have been able to partner with a New Zealand tank manufacturer (The Tank Guy) to sell emergency water tanks at our community hubs. These tanks hold up to 200 litres and can be fitted to your gutter downpipe to capture rainfall.
