Your local library is offering a chance to try something new during Library Week. Blind dates with books will be on offer for Love your library day this Friday 14 August with giveaways throughout the day.
“We’ll have books, DVDs and CDs wrapped up with only the genre visible until the item is issued” says Philip Casey, Customer Services Manager, Hutt City Libraries.
These will be a selection of blind dates with our top picks for reading, watching or listening.
“One of the best things about visiting the library is the unexpected - you’ll come in for one thing and leave having discovered something completely new.”
Library Week (10 - 16 August 2009) has been running for over 35 years and is a week long celebration of libraries taking place all over New Zealand. This year’s theme is “Escape, Explore, Discover - Ki te whai ao, ki te ao Mārama.”
“Escape with a great read, discover a new skill, explore new worlds and fall in love with something completely new.”
You can also show how much you love your library and win some fabulous book prizes. Make a short film in the style of a movie trailer telling us why you love your library. Judging will be by popular vote.
A fan of graphic novels or a handy illustrator? Draw the next chapter of a graphic novel to win a great prize - a pack of books and graphic novels (kindly donated by Graphic in Cuba Mall, Wellington).
The interactive book competition is for school kids in years 6, 7 & 8. Help create a nationwide story and win book prizes for yourself and your school library!
